My name is Samir Hanna Safar, and I'm 71 years old.
For years, I've paid close attention to what I eat and how I stay active. Almost every morning, I make myself a breakfast of cooked broccoli, pistachios, almonds, pecans, and walnuts mixed with goat cheese. Afterwards, I have a banana and a bowl full of blueberries.
I also lift weights regularly and walk for more than an hour a day. I feel good, I stay active, and people often ask me what I do to keep myself going.
That got me thinking. Could I take the foods I already eat every morning and turn them into something other people — especially older adults — could enjoy without all the preparation?
I started working on it. I researched combinations, read about protein and nutrition as we get older, and put together an early recipe.
But a nutritious recipe was only half the challenge. It also had to taste good.
That's where my wife, Lori, came in.
Lori is a very good cook — and when it comes to taste, she is extremely particular. If something doesn't taste right, she will tell you.
I asked her to try making the first batch.
It was close. The sweetness was right, the texture was right — but the chocolate and the honey barely came through. So we went back to the kitchen. More cocoa. More salt, of all things, which turned out to matter more than either of us expected. Dates for natural sweetness, because Lori loves dates. More chocolate again, because I love chocolate.
We kept adjusting until we had something we were both genuinely happy with.
Then we gave it to our adult daughter. She loved it. We shared more bars with friends and family, and the feedback stayed positive.
Nuts, fruit, protein — and ingredients we actually wanted to eat ourselves.
That is how OroLiv began.
Gold + Life
The golden years. That is who we made this for, and I count myself among them.
What started with my own breakfast, a simple idea, and my wife's kitchen became a bar we wanted to share with others.
So here we are. We hope you'll try OroLiv and enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it.
And one important side note:
No, it does not contain broccoli or goat cheese.
We hope you enjoy OroLiv.
